Not since the scandal involving Ross Perot and his rape joke has a candidate seeking election to the Office of President of the United States done more to torpedo their efforts than that of Donald Trump with the release of the tape containing vulgar and sexist remarks regarding women.  This one could even foreshadow Bill Clinton’s love life with Monica Lewinski (sic).  And because so many Americans distrust Hillary Clinton, the results of the news regarding Trump is leaving them in a state of confusion with regard to who they will eventually vote for in the coming presidential election.  To say the least, the other two candidates on the voting block are of little consequence.  My opinion in all this is that Trump has effectively shot himself (and his campaign) in the foot.  And surely as the sun will rise tomorrow morning, the news media won’t let it go away, either.

This is the kind of thing that makes otherwise attractive neighborhoods look trashy, and this is what my neighborhood has been having to deal with for years.  In various stages, this house and yards have become a collection location for some of the damnedest junk and trash imaginable.  A dilapidated rear fence facing the eastbound Highway 73 feeder exposes a homemade trailer and more junk.  The question asked is “Where are the city inspectors who are supposed to stop this stuff from happening?”  But, then again, this is Port Arthur and such things appear all over town with almost no interest from the community in cleaning things up.  It’s small wonder property values in Port Arthur fall so dramatically.

Not all Port Arthur streets are in this bad of condition, but there are an awful lot of them that are.  People find it more than strange that a community that can sink tons of taxpayer dollars for the dream of rebuilding downtown Port Arthur into what they remember it as some fifty or sixty years ago, can’t properly maintain their streets.  But we all know this isn’t the only thing there never seems to be enough money for.  In fact, the entire infrastructure needs upgrading, repair and maintenance.  Unfortunately it seems more important in Port Arthur for city employees to worry more about how to bilk the taxpayers out of their money than it is to try to make the community into something where people (and businesses with jobs) want to be.

Why is it the Port Arthur Independent School District seems more apt to graduate students unable to read, write, perform even the simplest of mathematical tasks or communicate in a business atmosphere?  Why is it that students trying their best to learn are often stymied by other students more likely to disrupt the classroom?  Why, too, do so many parents do almost anything they can to prevent their children from attending classes in the District?  And why is it there are students who openly describe how some teachers spend their time in class reading newspapers, magazines and books, or playing on their electronic devices, as opposed to trying to teach students something of value?  Many people think the PAISD has become noting but a joke; a joke from which even a brick could come away from with a high school diploma.  It’s small wonder why so many freshman college students have to spend their first year learning what elementary school, middle school and high school should have taught them.

Some people see this clown business as a joke, but local news reports a woman in Lumberton is attacked and robbed the other day by someone wearing a clown mask:

KBMT 12 News Now:  Lumberton woman claims she was attacked by a clown

And along with this were numerous reports of regional school districts receiving notice of threats of clowns visiting the various schools to murder students, teachers, administrators and football teams:

KFDM 6 News:  Online ‘clown threats’ prompts PAISD, BISD to increase security; other districts respond

A lot of people see this all as one huge joke, but if you’re one of them, then you need to take your head out of the sand.  There are people, local people, who get their jollies out of terrorizing others.  To think of them as some sort of a joke is placing you, and those around you, in a position of serious injury or even death.  That’s why it is the sincerest hope of the Jefferson County Beer Party that law enforcement doesn’t treat these matters lightly, investigates fully and brings about strict, severe punishment of those involved in threats or actions against others.
